Stephen’s career has spanned nearly 30 years, working in a multitude of positions in the Finance Department, giving him a great understanding of how all areas of Finance operate. The last 20 years have been in Senior Positions including Finance Director/Chief Finance Officer operating in listed Companies (both UK and US), SMEs, Private Equity and Owner Managed, in various sectors including; FMCG, Automotive, Service, Distribution and Construction. He is not your typical accountant but understands Commercial, Operations, IT and Human Resources.
A finance professional who not only understands his numbers but works collaboratively with other directors to deliver enhanced business outcomes including many turnaround projects which have delivered in excess of over £20m improvements in EBITDA per year in his last few roles. He is always looking for VfM opportunities within the businesses and strives to enhance shareholder value.
Stephen, brings with him a wealth of experience in relation to working capital management, including Short Term & Long Term Cashflow forecasting, but just not reporting the numbers but looking at efficient ways to improve the cash cycle. Adept at working with suppliers, commercial and supply chain to reduce the cash cycle within businesses and use the funds generated to continue to grow the business. He has worked with Banks on funding, payment holidays, covenants and even debt forgiveness to retain cash within the business. Not only this but has on numerous occasions negotiated with HMRC favorable Time to Pay arrangements.
With a background of PLC he understands what good looks like and has delivered projects around introduction of control frameworks and standard operating procedures, which have helped business thrive rather than be ingrained in red tape.
